About Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The South Entrance at Highway 41 (two miles from the Bed & Breakfast) is open year-round. Unless you make other arrangements, you will drive your car into the Park. Day use parking is free. Visitors are encouraged to use the free shuttle bus system that runs to many areas of Yosemite's valley floor. Some roads with Yosemite, such as the Tioga Pass (Highway 120), and the Glacier Point and Mariposa Grove Roads, are open seasonally.

Winter in the Sierra Nevada mountain range is breathtakingly beautiful, but poses a particular challenge - winter driving. From the months of November through April, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the National Park Service (NPS) require drivers to be prepared for winter driving, regardless of current road conditions. Visitors who do not have the tire chains/cables may be denied entrance to Yosemite, as tire chains/cables can become mandatory on any road at any time. If renting a car, request a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle. Car rental companies will not provide tire chains/cables. 2-wheel drive vehicles are required to carry properly fitting tire chains/cables during winter months. There are several vendors in Fish Camp and Oakhurst (13 miles south) that sell tire chains/cables. Be sure to ask about the vendor's refund policy on unused tire chains/cables. Big Creek Inn® does not sell or provide tire chains/cables.
